Heavyweight plastic material. Even though it is advertised as an infusion jug, it does not have an inner tube for fruit etc. Of course you can put them in the jug, but the hole is blocked when pouring. The lid closes very tight! Mine doesn't rotate open to closed so I leave it open all the time. Since I mainly use it for myself, I fill it with water, ice, and lemon/cucumber to make sure I'm drinking enough water. I remove the lid when pouring so the lemon doesn't clog the hole. I love that it fits on the shelf of my fridge. The jug has a very nice appearance, it has a significant weight. I just wish it had an infusion. Update: I've used this jar almost daily with a variety of citrus and other fruits and have never had a problem with the spout. blocked or something. Works great so I've changed my mind about needing a brew basket.
