Bought as a compass

I bought this unit to use primarily as a compass as my new Honda Ridgeline did not come with it. I was able to find it on top of the driver's side dash, which allowed me to hide the wiring under the dash. The speedometer function matches my dash speedometer up to about 45 mph, then it picks up about 3 mph above what the truck's speedometer shows. I have to fiddle with the settings to fix this. After being in the garage all night, it takes about 2 blocks for the device to get GPS data and start showing miles per hour and heading. You just have to play around with it to get the combination of information you want to display on the screen. The included instructions are not very helpful. Since I have settings for mph and direction, I haven't explored the other available features. Overall, this device does exactly what I bought it for. My only complaint is that the screen is difficult to read when the dashboard is in full sun. A longer sunshade or hood may be required to close the screen. Project for another day. Follow-up check after two months. I adjusted the mph speed to match my truck's speedometer exactly. I love the top view of my MPH and direction so much I bought one for my wife's Forrester. They are great for traffic and should never take your eyes off the road.
