I thought this would be a great first puzzle for my 2 year old granddaughter, she has been collecting puzzles on my iPad for a long time so she has a concept, This will be give their hands in practice. She really enjoys picking up the pieces to dress Minnie, but she just likes to use the "happy" Minnie and the occasional "wink" (or silly) Minnie! She also likes to put the pieces back in and out of the plastic tray. As a little two year old she also wants to throw rocks and managed to throw a rock out of my reach on the first day of play! She'll play with them for a good 45 minutes at a time, which for me is a great way to take a break from her constant running around! All 18 pieces fit in a box with or without a plastic tray and the puzzle frame is on top. The two elastic bands around the box and the top keep the top in place well when you want to take the toy with you. I am very happy with this purchase as most of the Melissa and Doug toys are well designed and durable. A great toy for the price too. I believe this puzzle is for ages 3+. I like letting my granddaughter play with it, mainly because she doesn't put it in her mouth. All children are different, so do what you see fit. I will be buying more of these little puzzles, they make great little surprises or complements to gifts.
