Microwave popcorn is best, but makers of the pre-packaged containers you pop in the microwave have managed to turn a truly healthy meal into a nutritious nightmare by packing tons add salt and oil. The best part about making your own is that you can control what goes into it. With a silicone container, this is easy to do. Simply add 1/4 cup popcorn kernels, put on the lid and microwave until the audible popcorn subsides. That's all. You can add butter or butter after you're done, or you can add butter before you cook the corn. I prefer to cook it dry and add some oil later. You can also add spices or whatever you like. The picture and instructions are wrong on two counts. First, the instructions say to set the microwave for 2 minutes. I need at least another minute. Set it longer and hear when to stop. Second, in the picture, popcorn is pouring out of the container. If you use the recommended 1/4 cup popcorn kernels, your popcorn will fill about 2/3 of the container. The top is free. It is designed to prevent popcorn from spilling out of the container. For this purpose it works. I was hesitant to get this container as I don't like plastic if I can avoid it. However, compared to most other plastics, silicone is relatively inert because it is based on silicon rather than carbon. So I think it's safer that way. However, you can microwave popcorn in a large glass container with a loose lid.
