Be sure to look at the second lock pictured above as this is the lock you will receive. The lock on the 5/8" Receiver 1479DAT has been redesigned from the first picture, the old design had the keyhole in line with the pin, however this can make it difficult to remove the lock in tight spaces under the bumper of a truck, there are a few vehicles at who just don't have enough room for the new 90 degree off-axis design Make sure there is enough room on one side of the receiver to accommodate the lock barrel body Another issue is the chrome finish Has experience with chrome receiver locks proved unsuitable for long-term use, particularly in areas with heavy rain and salt for de-icing the roads I keep my receiver locks year-round, to protect them from decorative theft years ago I cut and/or knocked out a few "chrome" locks after they rusted to the pin hole and became a thorn in the eye. Stainless steel locks did not have this problem. The use of a rubber cover is only conditionally suitable as weather protection and actually only protects the lock cylinder, which is made of brass anyway. While chrome is corrosion resistant to a degree, the location of the lock behind the rear axle means it can constantly be subjected to severe oxidative attack from brine, abrasive dirt and water. This is also an important consideration for those using the castle for saltwater swimming. You're better off with a stainless steel block if you plan on leaving the lock on most of the time or if you're hoping for a few years of trouble-free use. For occasional use, maybe even seasonal, this lock is suitable. . It is durable and easy to use. It also locks with a "regular" key, so you can get replacements or cut duplicates at most locksmiths or hardware stores. Other brands, notably Reese, use a patented square head wrench only available from Reese. So keep in mind the design change and what impact this might have on your application, expect it to rust over time and if you need more than the two keys provided, copies are easy to obtain. UPDATE 4/9/2019: I just stamped/cut/drilled this lock on my receiver. The locking mechanism jammed with a lock in the receiver. The good thing is that the 90 degree key configuration makes it easier to position the drill to drill through the frozen insides of the lock. I will not buy this product again.

Pros
  • Fits 5/8" (16mm) Receiver
Cons
  • I vaguely remember
