Grind very fine
Bought for lunch boxes to allow users to salt food at will. We are used to sea salt in large flakes in our house. But we had to put the granola in a coffee grinder and grind it very finely, almost to a powder state, so it could fit through the holes in those shakers. Even a packet of regular fine iodized salt from a restaurant would not fit through the holes. We didn't even bother with the pepper because it can be so resinous. However, I like the durability and compactness of these shakers, so we will use them.
