Review on Aquarium Thermometer: General Tools AQ150 with Waterproof Probe for Accurate In and Out Temperature Monitoring by Kristi Marshall

Decent thermometer with alarm

This is a good little thermometer. The gauge I received is accurate, I tested it with chilled (50F) and warm (130F) water and compared it to the readings I got with Thermapen, shaking the water to avoid hot spots avoid. Although the theme adjusts much more quickly, both readings were within 0.3 degrees of each other after about a minute. I took the time to notice that this thermometer updates its temperature every 10 seconds, which is very good as it takes time to adjust to the ambient temperature. I also used the same test to trigger low and high temperature alarms. They worked well and weren't overly annoying. It beeps a few times, falls silent for a while (10-15 seconds? I didn't time it), then beeps a few more times, etc. As others have pointed out, the alarm settings increase in increments of 1.8F, but that's good. enough for my use. I don't try to sound the alarm if I'm off a degree or two, I'm getting dangerously hot or cold due to a heater failure. I keep the tank at 74 and set the alarms to 82.4 and 68 (my fish are platies/moths and somewhat cold hardy). The only thing I would like is a small nail hook for wall mounting. I don't want to mount a leaky base unit on a tank, preferring to wall mount it. I think I'll hammer in 2 big headed nails and use built in magnets.
