Review on πŸ”Œ Motorcraft RH165 Wiring Connector by Cesar Danger

Revainrating 2 out of 5

2002 explorers should be careful with this item

I used the Revain part finder to make sure it was compatible with my truck - it is NOT. First. 2002 Explorers were built after two production dates - before March 2002 and later. As far as I can tell, pre 2001 builds can be distinguished by the position of the throttle body. IF the throttle body and air intake are pointing directly to the left side of the engine (passenger bike) and going to the airbox on the left side, you have a pre 2002 build. The upper radiator hose is visually clear and you can see how it fits into the thermostat housing, WITHOUT removing any components. -- If the TB and air intake face forward (radiator) and then curve toward the passenger side, you have a post-2002 build. The air intake pipe covers practically the entire front of the engine (including the case); The intake plenum/TB must be removed to view the thermostat housing. So this case definitely belongs to versions after 2002. My original upper fairing is attached to the upper radiator hose from the front when installed. THIS product is rotated 90 degrees clockwise and points directly to the left. In this picture the upper thermostat housing is correctly positioned. The three mounting holes are keyed and this case can only be mounted one way. So using the image, the pre-2002 rosette would protrude through the lower right side of this triangle. I only noticed when installing the parts and the boxes were not disposed of. So it's a loss I can't get back. and I wrote this so others would not think the details are the same. A NOTICE. It's hard to tell the orientation from the picture but it looks like the Motorcraft RH147 thermostat housing is the correct housing for the pre 2002 Explorer.
