They definitely work, I've used them to adjust hubs on some 35 year old Suzue hubs at Peregrine Masters but they are so soft! The metal warps easily if you get the inner sleeve sizing a little wrong, and they can also bend left or right fairly easily. I couldn't imagine using them on pedals. However, as I said, they worked, I was able to undo the hubs, re-grease them and then re-tighten them. I just don't know how many times I could use them before they fail. Luckily all my old magazines are fine so far!
