Review on Kyocera Ceramic Peeler CP 99RD Red by Larry Sabey

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great tool, best in category Kitchen Utensils and Utensils

This is the best peeler I have ever used and I have tried a few of them looking for the best turning shears. The previous reviewer who didn't even take the time to write a genuine review obviously didn't take the time to try it out before posting a negative comment either. I am baffled by people who write reviews that no one wants, but many things baffle me these days. I hope to be clear about this tool. Just bought a new one to replace an identical one, only red instead of blue, which has been in regular use for at least 15 years. It eventually broke, but I guess I was too hasty when I peeled the big yam with the gnarly eyes. I had to cut them off with a knife first. I actually bought two this time because Kyocera introduced a much more sophisticated version with an adjustable mount and I was concerned that this model might be discontinued. If I get 10 life years from each, that should be enough for me. No, it's not an absolutely indestructible metal scraping knife with a rough metal blade like my mother's, which lasts forever but does a pathetic job for this life. I used one while waiting for my new one to arrive from Japan and after using it I was reminded how good this knife is. This is a precision tool made in Japan, where kitchen utensils are designed to get the job done easily and efficiently, and where the sharpest blades can be found. If a person is heavy they can certainly break like I eventually did and I doubted the ceramic blade when I bought the first one but it didn't even chip by the end. The knife holder is broken. I could probably superglue it, but for a little over $8 and free shipping I figured I'd get a good new one. What this cleanser does so well, which no other cleanser I've tried does so easily, is peel off a very thin section of skin that over a long period of time turns into a bunch of veggies that don't go to waste. This is due to the razor-sharp ceramic blade and the very flat seat of the blade in the holder. It's very light, and I think that's why a previous reviewer found it fragile, but it's solid enough for its intended purpose and feels light in the hand. Another thing I like about this knife, being left handed, is that it is reversible. I paid way more money for the first one I bought than for this one. I think this is a real deal for those who love to cook and love kitchen gadgets that do their job well.
