Update: 01/31/2021: This (Mount-It! MI-4211) has been installed on my boat for a long time and works great. Really good for my use and my wife loves it too. I spoke to the manufacturer about why it wasn't working when I tested it just by holding it in my hand. They said they had other similar cases of test failures where they weren't fully assembled and would try to document the problem and solution for future customers. The manufacturers' responses were prompt, honest and helpful. I have asked them in the past to help me with one off fixes and they have helped. It has restored my confidence in Mount-It's products, of which I own several. Works well. Update: I installed this despite having issues with the locking mechanism because I need it to work. I don't know why, but after installing it got a lot better. maybe because it is screwed. Most of the time it works with an acceptable level of reliability. I'm changing my rating from 1 to 3 stars and I'm not returning it. I have several Mount-It mounts and they are excellent. This one (Mount-It! MI-4211) gets an A for technical design. The latch is a gravity mechanism with a very low lug meaning it does not latch securely and does not stay raised once latched. It only blocks if you try multiple times. Strangely enough, unlocking works reliably. As I like its dimensions for my overhead boot I'll see if I can get this to work and call the manufacturer but I don't think I can use it yet.
