If you are a perfectionist read here:

This was my first painting by numbers so here are some tips I read offline before I started: β€’ I stretched the canvas . To do this around the stretcher you first need a construction stapler, but it wasn't difficult if you have the muscles. β€’ I photographed the canvas BLANK first so I can go back and pinch and enlarge the tiny numbers if I accidentally smudged them or missed them. Some of the numbers are SMALL. β€’ I used toothpicks for tiny dots and invested in Jo Ann's "higher quality" brushes and I really preferred the brushes that came with them. That being said, the angled brush really helped when painting the pine trees. β€’ The colors are small and dry quickly, so I traced each number with a pen of the appropriate color. I made black first, which meant I colored all the shapes that matched black # first. That way I didn't search for every figure with the paint cap removed. β€’ Draw from the darkest color to the lightest β€’ I'm right-handed, so I also painted from the top-left corner to the bottom-right to avoid smearing the paint. It was tiring. The whole process took about 2 months. I ran out of black and brown paint and had to buy extra at my local craft store. I can honestly say I will never paint by numbers again, but I'm glad I did! I'll frame it and hang it up right away!
