These coffee filters are very effective at eliminating the odor that makes the coffee cloudy and chalky when two filters are used (one inside the other). Using only one filter will almost always blow a hole in the bottom part of the filter during the brewing process, defeating the purpose of the filter. As an alternative to using two filters for each brew cycle, the manufacturer can make deeper (taller) filters that sit directly on the bottom of the K-Cup. With deeper filters, the bottom of the K-Cop would provide the necessary support and prevent bottom blowout.
