I have been a satisfied user of the Prestos 12 cup coffee maker for decades; So when I had to buy this smaller mug model, I figured that wouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately; I was wrong. It was a smaller version; Absolutely. And it was perfect for making smaller batches like I had planned. What I didn't intend to do, however, was discover that the coffee maker had changed the composition of the metal lock nut inside the jar; and that is the reason for the bad rating. This important element, located inside the vessel and always in contact with water and the subsequent coffee that you are going to brew; It is not stainless steel but is made from an inferior metal compound. Why is it important? Because when heated. It turns black and releases some residual particles that permanently pollute the water inside the vessel. I noticed that when I used the coffee machine for the first time and rinsed out the contents. Here it is, big as life; the metal was beginning to blacken in places and when I wiped the interior dry with a clean cloth to inspect further; black sediment was all over the fabric. I then decided to fill the coffee machine with fresh water and this time not to put the coffee grounds in the container as usual. It would just be pure water. I turned it on and it heated the water as usual. When it was finished; I examined the water. To my dismay; Sediment floated in the water. So I rinsed it off again, wiping the inside dry and inspecting the teat and my clean rag. The locknut was blacker; blackened even more and left more black residue on my fabric. I repeated this five more times. Each time after heating, a black precipitate floated in pure water, and the metal turned black. I don't like metal residues in the coffee. So I emailed the company but never got a response. For now. I would not use this coffee maker again. Something has changed about the metal used for the vessel and its poor quality. So be careful.
