Review on Filtrete Replacement Sediment Reduction 4WH QCTO F01 by Randy Brimmer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to install; easy to change; a bit expensive and not quite the full advertised lifespan.

Works well. The cartridges are easy to install and replace (water leaks when changing cartridges, but nothing major) - they even have sealing grease. No leaks after 9 months so seems well done. On the other hand, it should serve a year in a family of 3 or 4 people. After about 8 months we noticed the water pressure dropping, especially when running multiple faucets, showers etc. I installed mine with a bypass valve in front of it, and bypassing the filter immediately restored the water pressure under the same circumstances, so I know the filter expired at 8 months, not 12 months as advertised. We are a family of 3 (two adults and a child) so I was hoping this would last a little closer to a year hence the 4 star rating instead of 5. Update: in terms of effectiveness I have removed the filter for a few weeks and subsequently noticed a strong chlorine odor in my water. Replacing the filter removed the chlorine smell from the water, so it actually works. Another small issue I might add is the packaging. These filters are supplied by the manufacturer in a cardboard box, the filter itself is in a plastic bag. However, the packaging never appears sealed, it is simply rolled up without a tie or other closure. I would feel a little more comfortable if they were in a sealed bag from the manufacturer to make it easier to spot a fake later on. Finally, it is used for drinking water in the house. Last update: like others, I was forced to replace it with the standard large blue filter due to the cost of replacement cartridges. It's a shame, because I really liked the quick-change format and the water quality of these filters.

Pros
  • Spare water filter under the sink
Cons
  • Some small things
