For those who, even after reading the manual, can't figure out what it is: absorbing the minerals that normally build up on your heating element. It's easy to use - place it on your heating element and then use the humidifier as usual. However, during my testing, I found that I really can't "hold" my hard water - if I do, the fabric pad will eventually "stick" to my heating element due to all the extra minerals that have built up between them ". and I ended up with a mess. If I stick to my original cleaning schedule and remove the pad, the heating element only has a very thin layer of mineral instead of the 0.5cm layer of dirt that normally builds up. Because of this, I save time cleaning my warm mist humidifiers, getting them "back to work” much quicker than my old 2-3 day cleaning time. And the pillow itself is pretty easy to clean too - soak it in 3% vinegar for an hour, then wring it out and it's ready to use again.
