I am new to cycling and bought this to protect against sunburn. However, these knee pads did a great job of protecting both my knees when one day my bike fell on its side while I was learning to ride clip-on pedals. I also wear cycling shorts above the knee and have noticed that the knee area is exposed to the sun. These knee pads did a great job blocking the sun's rays and protecting my knees. They also look good in lined cycling shorts and don't look out of place. I don't even notice I'm wearing them when driving. I'm glad I bought them. I wash them along with other bike clothes using a cone-shaped machine on a stick, designed to hand wash clothes in a five-gallon bucket with some liquid castile soap. I expect that along with my other cycling gear they will last for many years if I'm careful.
