The Wall Hinge (with Latch) that holds the top of the gate is a thin plastic piece intended to hold the Wall Hinge (Snap Fork) that attaches to the Wall Hinge ( snap fork) ). Each time you raise and open the gate, the hinge adjustment knob hits the inside top of the wall hinge (snap fork) and the wall hinge (snap fork) opens slightly. If this gate were placed at the top of the stairs and I was holding a child in my arms and in a rush to get through the gate the hinge would break or fall apart, the gate would snap off its hinges and the gate would fall out of my hands and down the stairs. If I tried to prevent the gate from falling down the stairs, I could stagger and the child could fly out of my arms down the stairs. A year later the wall mounting loop (latch) broke and now all gates are unusable. I quickly fixed the problem by installing a C-clip on the underside of the wall mount hinge (snap fork) to prevent the part from popping open when the gate is lifted and opened. I called the manufacturer and they charge $5 for the first part. and $2.00 for each additional piece. Bought 6 pcs. I bought these gates to house my dogs and figured the metal gates would last a lifetime. UPDATE: I HAVE THE SPARE PARTS BUT THEY ONLY COME IN WHITE. MY GATE IS BLACK. I HATE THIS CASE EVEN MORE. WILL NEVER BUY A REGALO PRODUCT AGAIN. I also had an issue when I first installed the gate because the hinge adjustment knob screw came loose and the entire gate was loose. I fixed this by gluing the hinge adjustment knob screw to the side of the gate.
