Review on Vibram Ascent Insulated M Sneaker Orange by Darryl Blumenthal

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great first run in cold weather (14 degrees Fahrenheit)

Good start! In my new Vibram Trek Ascent insulated shoes that I received today, I ran 4 miles at 7:31 min/mile in 14 degrees Fahrenheit. I have 4 other pairs of Vibrams but this is the first pair I've ordered online that closes above the ankle. As mentioned in other reviews I went up a size from my normal size to a 44 and they fit perfectly although not sure if I can wear socks. However, the wool lining works as advertised and my feet were comfortably warm from start to finish. in cold run. There was no wind and no wet slush so I can't comment on those conditions yet. Good thick rubber soles provided good traction but I had the same road feel and toe flex as other pairs. Besides the insulated Vibrams, I was only wearing ArcticCore H3 leggings and a long sleeve ArticCore H3 insulated shirt, along with Heattec gloves and a hat. My feet were the warmest for most of the run until I started. The only issue with Niggles is that the toe slots are very deep and I can actually feel them between my toes, but they didn't rub during my run. Also, the laces are ridiculously long, and even though I double-knotted them, they still dangled as I ran. I would really prefer the "drawstring" setup on my Komodo sport pairs. Last week I was running in my V-shaped shoes in 20 degree heat, which left an inch of space between the top of the heel and the leggings. This is not a problem with Trek Ascents as they cover the ankles. Also, my feet took over a mile to warm up in the V trainers, but because they are insulated, my feet were warm from start to finish. They cost $130 but when I bought them they dropped to $118. Delivery was as promised and they brought a white plastic envelope over the actual Vibram box. So far so good and I'll update my review if anything changes significantly.
