It works, but the TB3 spec is quite a mess. USE

I bought this to use for my eGPU (a Razer Core X along with my Razer Blade Stealth i7-8550u) just in case I need a much longer TB3 cable and it works for this use case. I don't have the know-how to run performance tests to detect performance losses if you use a much longer cable than the one that comes with the Razer Core X (I say this because it's often asked). But after testing in games, I couldn't see any serious drop in performance. But I will say that using the included shorter cable seems more responsive overall, but I guess that's just me. The quality of the cable is good, the cable is strong enough to withstand the daily bumps of the bag, but I strongly recommend taking care of it, why? Because it's too expensive for a cable. This is important because USB-C is supposed to simplify the cable and port specification problem, but it doesn't help with the TB3 specification. This cable is called an active TB3 cable, which means that You can only use it at its actual TB3 specs when connected to a TB3 enabled device on both ends, which means this cable will not work if you use it as a native DP (Display Port) cable for your monitor On the other hand, if you try to use it like a regular USB cable, it ONLY WORKS AT USB 2 SPEED (480Mbps), NOT USB 3.0 (5Gbps) or 3.1 (10 Gbit/s).But if you don't use this cable for such occasions units, of course it will work for you. And finally, what I don't like the most is the price, these things are too expensive. So just make the most of it if you decide to move to the TB3 ecosystem. Note: The TB4 specs are under development at the time of writing. So if you don't really need them but just want to try TB3, I'd suggest waiting until the end of this year or next year for TB4 to arrive. The TB4 specifications appear to address the issues of the TB3 standards and may also lower the price of TB3 accessories and cables.

Pros
  • FULL 5K VIDEO OR DUAL 4K: The Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cable supports video up to 5K 60Hz for impressive resolution, contrast and color depth with a Thunderbolt monitor. Or use the cable with the Thunderbolt 3 Dock to connect two 4K displays.
