- I've been using this laptop for a week now and am impressed with both the performance and battery life. lacks, like HP, that this laptop has 2 RAM slots. By default, the system comes with shared RAM. Unless you upgrade this system to just over 4GB of RAM, it restarts with no problem (I managed to get it to freeze a couple of times). That's why I bought a RAM upgrade kit (Crucial 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 2400MHz CL17 CT2K8G4SFS824A Laptop Memory Kit) from Ebay for $61. or you can get it here on Amazon for $67. To get the best performance out of this machine, consider upgrading the memory to dual-channel technology, which also helps boost GPU performance. (You can check online why this helps). If you don't believe me about the memory upgrade and its benefits, go to YouTube and watch YouTube called "ETA Prime". He has some videos of these cheap laptops and upgrading them. with additional storage. it also runs benchmark tests with and without memory refresh. I tested a game called "Livelock" which is a dual stick shooter. Before and after the RAM upgrade, the game showed a big difference in performance. With a double memory kit upgrade I can get around 27-30. - Another important detail that is not mentioned here in the specifications is that the model of this machine is HP 14-dk1022wm. - According to the documentation of this notebook, it can support memory expansion up to 16 GB (2x8 GB) at 2400 MHz. You might be wondering why this is an important detail as some similar models don't have an extra RAM slot. So be sure to do your research before you buy other HP models like this one. - If you look at the internals, there are no additional slots for m.2 drives and you can't install an SSD. Aside from the extra storage, this little guy can't have any hardware upgrades. ATTENTION! Don't forget to watch the disassembly video on YouTube so you don't crack the plastic! you have been warned! - According to benchmark software, Vega3 GPU is close to ATI Radeon 4650 or so from what I've read and 4670 is rated 40-50% higher. - 3D graphics score jumped from 600 to 1105 in PerformanceTest software. - Laptop comes with Windows 10 S (which can easily be ported to Windows 10 Home, search the web). HP and other vendors are known for this, so get ready to start uninstalling. Make sure you update your AMD drivers. If you want you can also update other components, use the model (HP 14-dk1022wm) to find the driver. support page. The touchpad is very dry, so it can be a bit annoying at first, but you get used to it (I know it gets in the way of some). The laptop is very light and I love it! The 128GB drive capacity is too small in my opinion, so you can add an SD card if you want to expand or buy an m.2 drive to upgrade it (not worth it for now as you'll break that ). Bank, better get a Lenovo in the $450 range where it comes with a Ryzen 5 4500U and more drive capacity). The laptop handles multitasking flawlessly with a small performance tweak (turning off a bunch of useless Windows 10 spy services). The fan is generally quiet and you won't even notice the device is on :) - With the power saving option, dimmed screen light and enabled WiFi, you can easily last about 6-7 hours. probably more likely to have no WiFi if you're on a plane or watching a movie. - I tried to boot live Ubuntu from the SD card, no wifi driver was found. Maybe if I installed it and tried to find the drivers it might work. - The camera is decent, but I'm not particularly interested in that. - The notebook doesn't get warm except for a tiny spot in the lower left corner that gets a little warmer, which is to be expected since that's where the APU is located. I will update this review if anything comes up. TL'DR: This laptop is worth it, but it shouldn't cost more than $300. I like owning it. . I have attached some screenshots for more details about this machine.
