OBDLink CX for BMW X5 (G05) 2021

Product works perfectly. I can code my 2021 BMW X5 (G05) for the next one. I'm sure I can do a lot more if I want to. M logo on instrument cluster and head unit. videos in motion. Disable the disclaimer on startup. BimmerCode app.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Nothing here

Didn't know the software wasn't available

I purchased this item in November 2020. It turns out that this device is not yet supported as its (new) apparently software will be available in December 2020 to set up and use this device with Bimmerlink. If you're looking for mods now I'd recommend a different adapter, I guess I'll just have to wait a few weeks for the software.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Works great with Bluetooth and no connection issues.

I have been using vgate for years but after the Bimmercode software stopped working with vgate connecting to wifi, this connects via bluetooth and never disconnects from the software . It has its own software to check any car problem. BMW works well. I will recommend it. There is another MX that costs $99. not sure. But save your money and get it for under $50.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Recommended for BummerCode and BimmerLink

OBDLink CX works great out of the nice box that came. The box actually has a magnetic lid to close it. Connecting the BimmerCode and BimmerLink apps to the 6th Gen iPad was simple and straightforward. I strongly recommend BMW and MINI to use the Apple product with the above applications. Make sure your vehicle make and model is listed for use with OBDLink CX.

Works great for BMW X3 (G01)

Plug and Play with Bimmercode. Using the two together lets you do things like enable auto stop/start memory (if you disable it, it stays off until you turn it back on with the car button, instead of always being on by default when you start the car ) and change the default driving mode from "Comfort" to "Sport" (in my case "Sport-Individual") without having to keep pressing the button every time you start).

OBD for BimmerCode and BimmerLink

Works great as advertised. Some functions are a bit difficult to understand and all functions in EXPERT mode are in German, so some knowledge of translation is required. The basic coding is very easy to understand (in English). Connecting to the ECU port and BlueTooth to the phone is no problem at all. Great toy if you want to add or change some of your BMW's hidden or 'disabled' functions, e.g. Alerts on startup, HUD adds flashing lights, removes the annoying seat belt horn and dash light andโ€ฆ

At the moment it's more of a dead end.

update: I managed to get it working. According to tech support, BMW should be operational. It works, but it's a deal breaker that the machine has to be on. I bought an ODBLink LX which is slightly larger and works fine in all my vehicles. Skip that CX and just get the LX. I bought it to use with Bimmercode on my 2007 328i sedan. At the moment it does not connect to Bimmercode nor to the OBDLink software from the OBDLink website. The OBDLink software also does not work with my 2013 Honda CRV. Iโ€ฆ

Great unit and software included, works in many vehicles

After figuring out how to hook it up, it's easy to use. It works for me with Toyota Highlander, Toyota Rav 4, Mini Cooper (first car I bought it for) and Jeep. I bought "extra data" in the app for Toyota ($9.99) and for Jeep ($9.99). I don't know exactly what additional data I got for each car's additional purchase, but I was able to see more data and troubleshoot issues at a deeper level than my cheap OBD2 reader that uses Torque Lite. And I've had success with Toyotas and Jeeps. I bought theโ€ฆ

It works great but you need to know the trick

In the end OBDLink CX worked and it did everything as advertised. But it was difficult to set up. Initially, the instructions are written for a 1990's car with key ignition. To start the installation, you will be prompted to put the key in Run mode, not Accessory mode. But most cars these days have a "start" button, no key, and no "engine run" mode. So, as soon as you open the door of your modern car to install this OBD device, the car is already in "Accessories" mode. The tiny instructionโ€ฆ
