This unit costs about half the equivalent so I wasn't expecting much. But I put in a spare battery, wrapped it around the spark plug wire of an outboard motor (oldie 7.5hp 2-stroke 2-cylinder) and started taking RPM measurements. That's exactly what I wanted. Appears to be well built but time will tell if it can handle the vibration and wet conditions that come with running an outboard motor. So far I'm a happy hiker, or rather a boatswain. A word of caution: don't lose that tiny piece of paper they call the instruction manual. You need it to program it for your engine configuration. This paper is very simple. Not that easy if you have to guess.
