Review on ๐Ÿ“Š Apera Instruments Conductivity Multi Parameter Replaceable: Superior Performance for Precise Measurements by Eric Williamson

Died within a month

I will not update this again as it no longer works. First it reported that the temperature was too far and then the values started to fluctuate and eventually it stopped working. Pretty disappointing. Revain and Apera, Apera will send you a calibration kit free of charge. I would still consider this point and that is my honest opinion. I will definitely update my review to reflect any changes over the next two years. ((Update #1) Within a day, Apera staff responded to my review via email with comments suggesting that a real living person had actually read the review and correctly responded to my comments! :0) Almost everyone my friends who are in the professional development and other sources of information have said to stay away from pen-type counters. In reality, however, they all grow cash crops, and I grow tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, etc. for my elderly grandparents. I know 20 meters is most likely rubbish, I really didn't want to shell out a few hundred bucks for each wall unit. It had enough good reviews and came with a 2 year guarantee that I decided to give it a try. I will definitely update this if there are any changes. Out of the box the pH bulb was dry and I calibrated it after soaking it for 10-15 minutes according to the instructions. There was some liquid and some air in the glass bottle. I then let it soak overnight, again as instructed, and then recalibrated. More solution was absorbed, but there was still an air bubble in the glass probe. After that I left it for a few days and recalibrated and the glass bowl was completely filled. Calibration values from the first to the last time fluctuated in the hundredth range and seemed acceptable to me. I don't want to pretend to be a scientist, I just understand the results, all measurements were accurate to a few hundredths and confirmed my suspicion that a reverse osmosis system would be necessary. The probe will dry out, but everything I've read and every one of my growing professional friends has told me never let it dry out. I tend to play it safe, especially when the new tip is $50. So I plan on keeping the probe in solution when I'm not using it daily. That's the only thing I don't like so far. In order to immerse the probe in the KCl solution, it must be filled just enough to cover the glass pH bulb but not enough to touch the EC sensors. The instructions state that immersing EC sensors in KCl solution will damage the sensor. I hope the photos can make it easy to understand. You must store the sensor upright and avoid dropping it or splashing KCl solution on the EC tester. So it's not as easy as I was hoping as I don't use a central tank but use multiple tanks for different types of plants. Hydroponic blueberries have very different nutrient and pH requirements than tomatoes, for example. I really like that it comes with test solutions and all and that if you leave a Revain review they send a full size calibration kit. At the same time, I'm a bit unsure about the quality of the reviews. I tried calling tech support twice on different days, once in the early morning and once in the afternoon, and both times I received a message asking me to leave my name and phone number. That's not very reassuring either, but since I didn't leave a message asking for a call back, I can't comment on that. (See update above) I hope I never have to contact tech support, but if I do and they're hard to reach I'll definitely update my review. If I were to buy again today, I would prefer dedicated pH and EC meters simply because keeping the probe in a KCI solution is inherently difficult with any 5-in-1 pen. I didn't know about this before buying it, but if I had to buy it again today, I would choose this particular gauge. one and maybe just use this product for pH just to make storage easier. Again, the budget is limited, otherwise I would opt for a few wall units. Considering the cost of planting an entire garden of vegetables, fruit and flowers on the ground floor of the house just to the delight of my grandparents, I just couldn't justify the cost of a few wall units.

Pros
  • Multivariable Gauges
Cons
  • Disappeared
