Let me start by saying that if this block was out of the box it would still have limitations due to its size. Would be fine with a small, lightweight camera, but maximum contact with the camera is 1 1/8 x 1 1/in. The quality is pretty low - some parts need manual finishing after casting and that's obvious. that no attempt was made to ensure that the individual parts assembled into the block that I received actually fit together. In other words, the quick release plate didn't fit the base and didn't snap into place properly. I fixed this by filing the edges of the board to make it slightly narrower on each side while keeping the original angle of about 45 degrees. After that it was fine. If you look closely at the photos, you'll see that the lever you have to pull to release the plate actually has two "wings" on the end - there's a cam that fits snugly on the beveled edge of the plate Quick Release (QD) is seated. and the other end of this part is a lever that you push or pull to release the QD plate. There is also a short lever on this lever, this is the safety catch: you need to squeeze the two levers together to turn it far enough to release the QD plate. That's all good except the spring that holds the smaller safety lever in place doesn't STAY in place. One end stuck out all the time because the pieces didn't fit together very well. I was able to take this safety latch apart and bend the ends of the spring slightly to keep the ends from popping out again. But I didn't have to do those things to make it work! I didn't have to file the sides of the QD plate either, but it was necessary for it to work properly. It looks like someone looked at another manufacturer's device and thought they could make a fake. this will work well enough. I think the biggest key to the quality of the product is that (1) it was the cheapest QD unit on the Revain website. (Yes, I should have understood that that would mean poor quality.) and (2) that it is described as a "Quick QR Plate with Ball Head and Tripod for Camera, Camcorder, Monopod". This is clearly written by a non-English speaking speaker. It's a quick release adapter and plate - PERIOD! Yes, it can be used with cameras, ball heads, tripods, etc. But I strongly recommend you spend $20 or more if you are looking for a QD adapter. Or buy Manfrotto for $35-40. This one works right out of the box and the QD plate is more than twice the size so it works better with camcorders, large cameras, or heavy telephoto lenses.
