I used to have these lights from another brand but I was never impressed with the amount of light they gave off. So I decided to go with them to see the difference. And WOW, they put on a real light show! After completing the task with the impenetrable clamshell, I inserted the 3 necessary AA batteries (not included) and was ready to use the light. This light is very bright and lights up right after the last battery is installed. So avoid looking at it unless you become temporarily blind. The light is about 4 inches in diameter. There is 3M double sided tape on the back but that's about all that was in the box. The detachable base has multiple holes in case you decide to mount it somewhere permanently (again, you'll need to provide mounting hardware). I ended up being so happy with these that I'm ordering 3 more! So in short. GOOD: - VERY bright light that illuminates a large area - Has a more diffused beam - Feels more durable and cheaper than other brands I've tested in the past - ONLY turns on when motion is detected AND when it's dark there is light. - Once triggered, the light will remain on for approximately 20 seconds (or until motion is detected). - Comes with 3M double-sided tape already attached on the back. - Not too expansive. NOT SO GOOD: - VERY sensitive to the slightest movement - Works not only in total darkness but also in moderately lit places - NO magnetic backing. Too bad, because if you need to temporarily mount it on a metal surface, you can't. - Mounting hardware is NOT included.
