My old weather band radio technology was out of date and this little model was a big upgrade. In addition to the essential radio functions, this has a lot of great bells and whistles that are perfect for use in the car in an emergency. Very compact. The radio reception isn't great, but with the antenna up I have no problem picking up all the local stations (just not crystal clear). The ability to detach the flashlight and use it as a reading or work light (see photo) is a nice touch, and portable power packs are useful, but the ability to charge your mobile device from this thing - easily with a crank or solar power - adds another layer of security when you're out of power.
