Very noisy but you get used to it

I read from another reviewer that this filter makes your engine too noisy and whistling. I thought yeah right, too loud and whistling. Well they are right. I installed it over the weekend, it took 4 hours as I took my time going indoors after work on the street to warm up. Follow the instructions for "T". When assembling the unit, I found that the manual braking pattern was backwards, no problem, easy to fix, and recognized it early. Put it all together and the intake pipe that connects to the throttle body will not fit properly. Flipped the brace over and put it on the outside and it fit better. No problem. Engine start time. It starts but doesn't continue. There must be an air mass meter. I did well with it. I called tech support seven days a week. Went in and googled about it, one post said the person had the mass airflow sensor set backwards. Hmm, air mass meter dependent on direction. That would explain. Got mine out and now it starts and runs. Came into work today, 45 minutes one way. WOW, that thing is LOUD. Like 4 times louder than normal noise in the cabin. It's like sitting in the cockpit of an airplane taking off. Take your foot off the accelerator and the noise is gone. The engine noise is about the same as road noise at 70 mph because at 65 mph I could still hear the engine noise. Whistle, if you just give it a little gas you will hear a whistle. It goes away when you open the throttle. There's a sweet spot where you can keep whistling. So if you're driving and maintaining cruising speed, release the accelerator pedal and slide in and out smoothly to maintain speed. You will hear a whistle each time. Toyota did a great job in designing the air box to keep the noise down. .K&N is out tonight and the stock airbox is back. This item may suit you if you already have a loud exhaust and enjoy loud engine noise in the cabin. Not me. Not every day one and a half to two hours. I'm going to try a K&N filter that fits a genuine Toyota air filter housing. Challenge when confronted with a puzzle. I found out that the mass air flow sensor is directional, which I didn't know. ------------------------------- ----------------------New entry after 3 days of driving After 3 days of driving I get used to a lot of noise while waiting for a standard air filter change. My tired Tundra has more strength and enjoys riding again. I will build a sound deadening box around the K&N filter, NO! I will not block the front opening, just around it. The woman complains about the smell of oil in the cab, even with air recirculation on. I suspect the oil smell is coming from the K&N air conditioner. I don't know if it burns or not. Maybe the special airbox I'm going to build will keep the oil smell from getting into the cabin. -----Upgrade Completed by returning the product to Revain. Went with a K&N filter that fits a standard air filter. It's much quieter now. 5 stars for a hassle-free return.
