I bought this monitor thinking it would be a good upgrade for my HP 2709m. I tested the 2711x with my current 2709m monitor to visually compare them. I understand that many visual preferences are subjective, but here's my opinion. I set the brightness/contrast/color settings the same for both, as far as the numbers they have in the menu. The HP 2711x seemed brighter overall, but the 2709m fared better when it came to balanced color in movies. Skin tone, blue tone. For some reason I'm having trouble calibrating the color in 2711x to match. I could never get the blues right. Also with the LED in the 2711x, at least the one I bought had a blue glow at the bottom of the screen which was annoying when watching movies. I haven't had that blue glow since 2709m. The black value at 2709m seemed better, smoother to me. The 2711x appeared to have a blue cast to black and wasn't as dim as I expected when I switched to LED. That was the main reason I wanted to switch. The 2711x is definitely lighter, thinner and cooler, but in the end I want to be happy with my image. I think if I wanted to upgrade what I have at all I would have to upgrade to an IPS panel and spend a lot more money. I will keep my 2709 and return 2711x. I currently use the monitor for gaming, movies and some Photoshop work. The colors just seemed better to me in 2709. I hope this helps someone, but that's my subjective opinion.
