Review on 34430SA020 Steering Forester Impreza 34430SA0019L by Tom Plowman

Revainrating 2 out of 5

It works out. but it's louder than the bad pump I replaced. waste of money.

I replaced my power steering pump on my Subaru Forester with this unnamed aftermarket pump because it's less than a third the price of the original pump. After a complicated setup and a few weeks of riding, I'd happily shell out the extra cash rather than buy it. This pump looks just like the one I replaced but hasn't made any noise since I installed it. For context: I have brand new power steering lines, brand new fluid, and there is no air in the system, evidenced by foam/bubbles in the reservoir. The noise is the same as the pump I replaced but sometimes worse. I would describe it as a howling/creaking noise that gets louder when I cold start the car. The only thing I can think of to fix this is to replace the o-ring on the suction side of the pump, but I don't think getting air into the system to be a problem so there are no air bubbles. I'm at a loss and lost $80 more than it would have cost to just buy the OEM, not to mention the hours it took to complete the install. Save time and money and buy another pump. I'm only giving it 2 stars because the pump "works" well, but it's downright uncomfortable to live with.
