My car now starts like new. It's great to have my car back. My engine burned for a few months and it turned out that the starter motor was shorted. When it finally died last week, it didn't click - instead it emitted a grinding squeak along with some smoke just before it stalled. Two of the four brushes were also completely broken. When I removed the old starter I opened it up and it was an ugly mess. I have never seen such a destroyed part. For a thousand bucks for a used car, I'm fine with that, but I like to fix things. There will always be concerns about a new starter falling out of the box, but rest assured it will perform just fine. When I checked the instructions that came with the new starter, I was impressed to see that it came with a full printout of his full test. I don't know what most of this means, but I like the evidence, so it was nice to see it included in the deal. When I drove it after installing the new starter, I noticed that the engine ran much more smoothly and wouldn't stall, so apparently a short in the old starter cost a lot of electricity and had a negative effect on the electrical system. Now my car starts with no problems.
