Power Master Chevy Starter

Works wonders on my BBC. Lightweight and lightweight compared to the original GM starter. The only negative is that these starters are not cheap.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Not all good

1969 Camaro 302 in Starters & Parts

Perfect for my SBC! Setup was a breeze and a sluggish start with high compression (11:1) and the engine was gone. This mini starter is a beast!

Pros
  • Easy Install
Cons
  • Update Available

Great starter. Bad packaging.

Good start. Used on my 10.5:1 383 SBC. Spins like no compression! However, the packaging I received it in was very poor. The box was torn and resealed several times. And there were no pucks with him. I had to make my own pads to get it working. But the starter itself is great!

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Some disadvantages

Will not fit Oldsmobile engine

Will not fit Oldsmobile Rocket 350. Bracket (shown) is approximately 1/8 inch loose. It fits the Chevy 350 perfectly. Luckily I was able to fit it using a bracket from my last Mini launch 10 years ago. Once I had the right braces, they came in like a champ, only annoyed that an amazon told me they would fit.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Appearance

I do not recommend this starter

I do not recommend this starter. I have a BBC 10.5:1 540" with a fixed reel and locked timing. etc. Tisis Starter worked for about 3 months and died. I took it to Powermaster for repair. They sent it back and I got 2 full days away. Now he's dead again. The clutch assembly in the starter drive isn't strong enough.

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Frequency

1) Pay attention to the correct hole pattern for your flywheel! 2) Make sure you have clearance: It fits next to my heads on my 350 sbc 1988 trans am. Flexible timing options make it ideal if space is at all available. My old starter was soaked from heat and needed to cool down for about 30 minutes after a decent ride. It had thermal film on it which kept it cooler longer but also hotter and it was a pain in the ass! I didn't wrap this starter and it started my engine EVERY time with NO…

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Protection

I'm impressed! I had a mini TCI starter on my big block Chevy and it just didn't crank the engine like I thought it would after the engine was warm. I spent a few hours studying starters - gear ratios etc - and settled on this one. The Powermaster Mastertorque 9600 revs hot or cold with no problem and revs much faster than TCI. I also like the 360 degree head adjustment. This starter should work with any 153 or 168 tooth flywheel on a small or large Chevy block.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Security

such an improvement over the OEM design!

OEM is so clumsy and difficult to install. It's much lighter, so much so that you can hold it with one hand while you start tightening the screw with the other. Also, there are cable ports on the side that you can reach. This allows you to install the starter BEFORE attaching the cables. With the OEM you have to hold it close enough to the cables with one hand and tighten the cables with the other hand THEN the battle is only half over. done when you try to insert the screws to install it on…

Pros
  • Good thing
Cons
  • Good but not great

Seller Everything-Aftermarket

The starter itself is fine. Problem with Seller: All After Sales Service (EA). IFFFFFF if you ship the starter back to EA (in my case it was at my expense which is not a problem) they are not set up to provide you with a shipping label. So you should go to the first aid kit and get a few cans of painkillers to put up with your returns company's customer interface (UPS, FedEx or USPS. UPS is worst). Eventually EA will move into the 21st century and copy the process used by Revain where they…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Weight

perfect fit, though. good for spares

I bought this starter because I had a heat soak (FL) problem on my 1936 Ford LT1 with hugger header. I bought it despite the high price. Installation was straightforward, with particular attention to gasket directions, clearance and an overtightening warning in the instructions and a warning label on the starter. Started the car and still had problems with the heater. I removed the starter but the small cable connector nut did not loosen. My fault! I must have overtightened the nut the first…

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • old
