I bought this to brew beer and use it in the kitchen. I'm a grain brewer, so I need to measure the temperature accurately. I've ruined many "waterproof" thermometers by cooking with them, but this one is working great so far, while all the others I've tried in the past have absorbed moisture and started to fail or stop working. I just used it to brew a batch of Cream Ale and had a pretty thin mash that I accidentally dropped into the mash tun. It fell straight to the ground (about 3ft) for a good 30 seconds but I was able to get it out and all was fine. The length of the probe (no kidding) really helps gauge mash temp. I used the metal clip that came with the kit to attach the thermometer to my kettle when I started chilling the wort and the steam didn't affect it at all. The next day I used it to check the temperature of smoked chicken and pork ribs and it worked great too.
