Review on Super 2.0 18L Tank Bag: Unparalleled Storage for Your Motorcycle Adventures by John Carter

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent all round tank bag

Conclusion: great bag. It is durable, functional and flexible. For me it's just perfect for every aspect of my driving. I have a magnetic one if anyone is interested. Yes, you need a ferrous metal fuel tank (i.e. not composite or aluminum...but steel...seems obvious doesn't it?) Sorry for the verboseness. Reference: Bike: '09 Kawasaki EX-500 (Ninja 500R) Location: NE Alabama Ride Times: Year-round (when bike launches) - heavy rain in late fall, winter, and spring Ride Type: Daily commute (any weather, 20-20 30 minutes), Pleasure Ride (Hours) Pocket Rating: Best investment I've made to make my bike really useful. I drive a lot and the thing is perfect. It has lots of volume, neat pocket/organization and a great card holder. It also has high survivability. Key features (in no particular order): • Map holder: I use it all the time and the pocket is in the right place on my bike so I can look down while riding. When stopped, it's great. It is securely attached to the bag so you don't have to worry about disconnecting it. I've put my phone in it before, but the glare on the clear plastic cover makes it pointless in most conditions in my experience. Sometimes it's a bit annoying to put the card in the slot and take it out again. It's recommended to keep a dryer inside (like one that comes out of a pill bottle) after it gets wet, otherwise inserting and removing the card due to moisture is a real pain. • Expandable. : If you open this thing up to a full 18 litres, you can pack enough for a day/night ride. When fully open you "reach" the item and there is no chance you can get into a liner position, but if you are carrying this item fully loaded you generally do not need a full fold. • Pocket organization: I find this pocket well balanced; There aren't many pockets, but enough. It's great for snagging a few items from the grocery store on the way home from work (although I also recommend getting a Cortech tail bag and saddlebags for anything beyond the price point of a single oversized bag. I think I do). had two 2). -L bottles on the way to a social event. It has three pen holders as well as a small flashlight and a blackberry shaped holder (which I use for my mini power bank). The main compartment is big enough to hold an iPad and charger plus a tightly folded pair of socks, underwear and a t-shirt when unfolded, open and flexible enough to handle some odd shapes. I usually carry all my paperwork there, and I usually keep random items in my side pockets (like my helmet's chin guard, a pair of sunglasses, a tissue and visor spray, and maybe my little plastic side stand that I carry so the bike doesn't blend into the pavement ). enough to hold your chain oil spray but often ends up in your main bag or saddles when really needed. If I don't carry my bags on my tail, I also put my raincoat in there in the summer. I have never used a spare visor pouch but it will work. In winter I can carry a pair of gloves, dry socks and a spare pair of thermos as they compress a lot. This keychain is much more useful than usual. I never use it to hold a water bladder because I only carry a small one on my back as I haven't found a better way to actively drink on my back than the hose over my shoulder (or under my arm) and below to put my chin strap in my mouth. As far as I know, solving this problem is difficult. • Magnetic Closure: Well, that and durability is where metal meets road for me on this bag. Let me admit that I am responsible for all the failures of this system. The two magnetic strips on the sides are strong enough to keep this bag on your bike. When I first received the bags I was afraid that they might be too strong because I thought it might help the bike tip over if I parked the bike on an unreliable surface. However, it's not too strong. The ONLY problem with this bag is that I often forget to lay out the solenoids and it sits like this on the tank but doesn't quite adhere to the surface... I've personally dropped this bag on the freeway at 60-80 mph . sometimes when I'm about to do something weird with my arm like pull my sleeve down or something. My sleeve gets caught in the Velcro or I swipe my arm forward and down and scream...my bag falls down the interstate (#faceplam)...Again, it was ALWAYS my fault for not securing it properly! This bag is great. • Durability: If you've read this far, you're probably wondering what happened to the bag after each of those three cross-country trips. Survived every time. This material is legal. He was hit by two cars, a sedan and a trailer (yes, I had to keep an eye on that). When the trailer crashed into it, I really did have an iPad in it. The trailer's bumper hit the sack first, throwing it off the edge of the road and onto the median. This was the last time I used the bag because there was a cut on the side of the seam just below the cut zipper (i.e. it wasn't a tear because there were no frayed edges... the sharp edge of the Bumper was literally cut into the case as it looks ipad SURVIVE.. the case wasn't literally broken but it was soft enough and strong enough not to break an ipad! if its not protection then i will not I know the other two events only resulted in minor abrasions • Construction: I just want to emphasize that the zippers on this item are very well made/designed, they are easy to manage even while riding, they are smooth , durable and reliable • Rain cover: The included rain cover is wonderful, it has elastic synchro which works very well at all my speeds I've never used one It came with a rain cover and a map, so I don't know how legible it would be if I tried looking through both clear plastic pieces, but it's food for thought if that's your concern. Transporting away from the bike: This bag is very practical. The handle on the back of the bag is large enough to be gripped with a gloved hand, but not too loose either. Wearing this piece as a backpack isn't exactly fashionable, but the straps work as advertised and it can be functional. I don't want to carry anything heavy for long periods of time as the weight sticks out a bit from your back and tends to move and press on my lower back which is just uncomfortable for me. I'm taking another of these bags to replace the one that got hit by the trailer. Drive on.
