Review on PowMr Controller Regulator Lead Acid Batteries Tools & Equipment by Hector Watkins

Decent hardware crippled by software

The hardware seems well made with good design and small size - I needed a small mppt controller and it seemed to fit, but I had to find a manual online and read it before ordering. There are two main issues with this controller that may exclude it from your options. First, the settings can only be changed if you have an optional Bluetooth module. This is pretty typical for charge controllers - software developers don't want you to be able to use buttons to change adjustable settings for some reason. IMO this is due to their sheer laziness. The second problem as you can see from the figure is the voltage parameters with low hard voltage limits that you cannot exceed. The minimum settings for each charge mode are as follows: Bulk/Boost: 14.0-14.8V, Leveling: 14.0-15.0V, Floating: 13.0-14.5V. Well, if these ranges for If your specific batteries work then this might be a good charge controller. To you. However, according to the manufacturer, my batteries require the following voltages: Bulk/Absorption: 15.8V Float: 13.4V, Equalization: 16.3V for 2 hours And it doesn't correct the temperature correction when it's cold, so this controller can't match mine Batteries run out and probably won't fully charge them every day. Why software engineers screw up such hardware is really insanely stupid. I believe they have super safe settings that keep you from overcharging your batteries, but for some this can result in permanent undercharging which is almost as bad. Only choose this controller with these limitations if you have read the manual and the default settings are perfect. for your needs, or you get the Bluetooth option and can optimally set charging voltages for your battery type within its narrow range. battery type. Finally, the documentation in the box I received doesn't seem to give any manufacturer warranty or contact information, so I highly recommend adding Revain's 4-year warranty for an additional $10. the voltage range is what I need and I have to say that the PowMr hardware is better in many ways - the aluminum heatsink is more solid, the plastic cover is more durable, feels and looks better, Epever is more like a toy compared to PowMr. Epever's display is easier to read and has a backlight. You can also connect via Ethernet with a USB cable to adjust the settings, but other than that I think PowMr is better in hardware - if PowMr added a wired connection method and made an adjustable voltage range up to 17V it will give a controller to get IMHO. Update 2: Additional information on battery desulfation: Desulfation of lead-acid batteries requires 16V or higher, with temperature compensation added, it is easy to see that the charge controllers have a ceiling of 17V or higher for a 12V system should, not 15V. If you're using the US Navy standard to compensate for a flooded lead-acid battery, that's 16V too. I don't really understand why the software engineers chose the 15V limit for this controller, but it does seems like many others have done so too. I hope they see this error and update the controller software.

Pros
  • Multiple load management modes: always on, dusk to dawn, evening and manual, monthly load data can be calculated and displayed by grouping and graphs. Battery in the solar system automatically.
