I just received this. As already mentioned, the touchscreen is VERY insensitive. It's really terrible. Almost useless. Right out of the box there's a thin protective plastic cover over the screen (it's hard to see but it's there) that can be removed, which helps a bit. After a bit of fiddling I figured out the problem. A thick plastic lens with scratch protection is glued to the glass of the screen. That's why he's so insensitive. One issue I have is that the plastic lens doesn't sit perfectly flat on the bottom of the screen, especially around the edges. I can feel it move a little, meaning it's a fraction of a millimeter higher than the glass pane below. I rubbed the entire lens to press it more firmly and that helps a little. I also get much better results with my fingernail, or a combination of fingernail and pad, or a stylus than with my fingertip. The plastic lens can be removed, but that not only exposes the screen but also the screen's electronic contact points around the edges, so not a good idea. The plastic lens has a black border and a clear plate in the middle. The black bezel is self-adhesive and covers the edges of the screen. After a few months I can change the plastic lens using an Xacto knife to cut out the center of the lens to reveal the glass panel (leaving a black border to cover the edges), which should make this device much more responsive. but for now i can live with it. At the moment the device is ready for use and I can play films (AVI) and music (MP3) with a little fiddling. So it works for me, and since I only use it 1 hour a day, 3 days a week at the gym during long, strenuous cardio sessions, that's acceptable for now. Regarding the surgery, when will I receive it? play, it does a great job. Sound and picture are clear, rich and pleasant. Some of my AVI files lose a frame or two and some audio every 5 seconds. It buffers and stutters for a few milliseconds while catching up, but not all files do so so it could be something in the encoding. I haven't tried MP4 files yet as my entire movie library is in AVI or MKV (and MKV is not supported by this player). If the touchscreen wasn't so insensitive I would give it 4 or 5 stars, but that's why I can only give it 2. It looks great, is solidly built and plays well ONCE IF you tap it multiple times over and over again to make it work. Last night a 53 minute AVI file got locked during a scene change and the screen went white. When blocked, the audio in the headphones was quite loud, which was frightening and a bit uncomfortable. Had to find a paperclip to reset the device to bring it back to life. Simply fill out the return documentation and send it to UPS. I need to try another player. Downgrading this review to 1 star.
