Review on πŸ”Š NETGEAR Orbi Voice AC3000 - Mesh WiFi System with Alexa, Harman Kardon Speaker & Fastest WiFi Router by Jason Wilson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Life changer, lol best networking products

I had a nice but older Linksys EA6900 wireless router and it worked pretty well on my first floor (about 1600 square feet on the first floor). But I've never been able to push a 5G signal into the expanses of the second floor, and the 2G signal was weak. I did a bit of research and looked at this or the new Google devices that are a bit like Google Assistants. But I went with this larger Orbi system and was not disappointed. I only have two devices - the main Orbi router is downstairs and the satellite is upstairs and about 30 feet further in the hard to reach areas when using my old Linksys device. I'm now getting Wi-Fi speeds in excess of 200Mbps on 5G almost everywhere in my house. I have the basic Charter Spectrum service which gives me a little more speed than they advertise. I typically get download speeds of 210-220Mbps and upload speeds of 11Mbps (this applies to my router). With this Orbi setup, I can get the same speeds almost anywhere in my house, as long as I'm connected to a 5G signal and using a phone or PC that's been released in the past few years and is capable of running at those speeds. In the farthest corners of my 3,200-square-foot home, I can drop the speed down to 180 Mbps entering and 10 Mbps. Unlike some other reviewers, I really like the sound quality of the Revain Alexa on satellite. I had the problem that some people mention where the volume got stuck shortly after installation, but I think the device should have updated its firmware automatically because it never happened again. I'm so happy with the system that I bought another satellite for about $100 because of the good sound. I don't really need satellites for wifi in my house anymore, but for $100 I figured it never hurts to have a backup in case my first satellite ever goes down and I need a better speaker than my Echo Dot in the kitchen/dining room. need breakfast area. and that second orbi satellite sounds pretty good there. If I've noticed an issue at all, it's when I'm working in the garden and my phone connects to a 2G signal, it doesn't immediately switch to 5G when I get back to the house. But a 2G signal is typically between 40 and 80 Mbps, so I'd never know unless I specifically looked into the Orbi app to see which devices are connected to 2G and which are connected to 5G. If I turn off Wi-Fi on my phone for a second, it reconnects to 5G. There's probably a setting to make this faster automatically, but like I said, 2G is so fast I don't even care anymore. Please note that as some people have pointed out, you cannot create a separate WiFi SSID name for 2G and 5G. They should, let's say, share a name. So things should switch automatically as you go outside and back inside. But I like that you can set up a guest network with a different SSID name. However, I am currently not using this function.
