It's too short and you can't move it up and down

I can't believe the quality can be so bad I can't adjust it, it falls very short because the adjustable thumbscrew isn't in my case it doesn't work. I went to Home Depot to buy a longer thumbscrew but the size isn't even standard. All the time stays short, my bird likes to sit in the highest place. Instead she sits on my lamp. It's generally very loose, when my bird tries to perch on it turns over and drops it, I don't think it's even safe.
