Review on Hydrapak 3L 100Oz Shape Shift Reservoir by Fahmi Manna

Bad plastic welding: a cautionary tale.

This is the second time I've bought this tank which I mainly use for endurance runs (2+ hours) and/or hiking. The best value for money tank for general use. The hose is detachable, has a high-quality valve and even comes with a nifty magnetic mount to keep the tip of your mouth under control while running. Look carefully at the picture. You'll see this blue line running down the center of the bubble. This is the internal connection that helps the bladder hold its shape in "low volume mode" (2L). That was the source of my frustration. When I first bought this item, after about 3 months of regular use, the stitching around this joint came undone and the tank became unusable. Still in awe of how well the canister works (and how easy it is to clean) and perhaps due to the endorphin release, I quickly ordered a replacement. When the replacement came I (very, very carefully) disconnected the internal connection, used full volume and drastically reduced the stress on the seams. Within a month of use, the welds were coming loose *again* in the exact same spot (top of this link). This is a serious design flaw and I will buy it *again* in a heartbeat if they offer a tank without this "feature".

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
