Questionable long-term reliability on PS4

There's no arguing the value of this drive (better performance than HDD and slightly higher price at an acceptable performance tradeoff compared to SSD). I bought the 1TB version to upgrade a standard PS4 hard drive and it worked fine for 3 years until it suddenly crashed when I started Bloodborne. I updated the operating system, formatted the drive and tried reinstalling the new operating system, but the problems only got worse. The PS4's built-in database recovery feature also got stuck at 24%, resulting in a boot loop ending with "Cannot access storage, please restart". Also, repeated attempts to restore the PS4 database did not resolve the issues. I finally got frustrated enough to format the drive using Mac-OS Disk Utility (ExFAT). After that, Windows 10 didn't recognize the hard drive (Explorer freezes when trying to access the hard drive, Device Manager is useless too). The disc is now useless on PS4 as the system lags, gets stuck in menus (even when navigating), won't reboot from sleep and won't boot on cold boot. It is also useless on Windows 10. Mac OS (Catalina) shows better but intermittent results. While I definitely got my money's worth with the drive ($26/year for 3 years), I will now go with an SSD as the price/GB is now justified for use on the PS4, especially the 1TB capacities and 2TB.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • too stupid
