Review on Sharpener AFMAT Sketching Prismacolor Adjustable by Kelsey Brown

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Absolutely best suited for long tip pencils of most brands.

I wasn't sure, it seemed too good to be true - great point and great price? Well I have to say I'm glad I decided to try this pencil sharpener! ADVANTAGES: >> No need to hold the pencil - it will automatically retract and stop when the end is over. >> EXTRA LONG SHARP TIP - You can adjust them from a wider, flat tip to an almost pointed tip with a slightly flat tip. This isn't a problem if you either sharpen it on sandpaper to a fine needle (these are made specifically for sharpening pencil points and you don't have to open the drawer to use the one inside) or you can just work with it like it is, tip lightly and rotate the pencil as you work. The tip will sharpen after a few hits.>>It appears to be very well built - time will tell but I think it will hold up well. Bonus, you can buy a spare blade if you need one. I think I'll just buy another whole sharpener to have handy :-) OBSERVATIONS (not exactly CONS): >> It doesn't work well with very soft pencils like Derwent Coloursoft. This is to be expected as a super soft lead doesn't work well with a long needle tip, it's just physics and not the sharpener's fault. I thought it was worth mentioning just so people don't think they can use it with all their crayons. >> This will not work with thicker pencils - you can get a pencil that is slightly larger than Derwent Coloursoft size, but it will not feed properly and sharpen with an uneven surface. Again, this isn't really the sharpener's fault, it's not designed to work with thick pencils. >> After sharpening 8 to 10 soft lead colored pencils, don't forget to skip the very hard pencil to clean the blades. I keep a box of 9H pencils specifically for this purpose. >> This is fantastic for oil based crayons with harder cores. Since about 2/3 of my pencil collection is made up of oil pencils, they will be of LOT use! >> Remember, if you have a set of cheap, poorly glued, poor quality wood-bodied pencils, they don't have a sharpener. around this will work just fine. Don't blame the sharpener if the quality of your pencils is the problem. Overall, I highly recommend this sharpener!
