Solid build quality, but harder to use than expected

As a writer and lecturer, I depend on a digital voice recorder. I have several old Olympus VN-702PC recorders that use AAA batteries that don't last very long. The reason I bought this rechargeable voice recorder is that the internal lithium battery lasts longer and can be easily charged without losing the date and time settings. I also bought the Besue because it was described as single-key recording. Not so. In order to make a voice recording, the user must first use the small slider on the left to turn on the voice recorder. Easy enough. However, before you do that, you need to make sure that the red slider on the right side is switched to Record and not Save. When switching to "Save" this red switch should be toggled to "Record". Then the recorder starts recording immediately without leaving time to put the recorder on the table, etc. To stop an unexpected recording, the user can press the big pause/play button. This will pause the recording, which can then be brought back into recording mode by pressing the pause/play button again. However, if the recorder remains in pause mode, the screen will turn off after a few seconds. To restart the recording mode, instead of pressing the pause/play button once, you have to press it twice: once to turn on the screen and a second time to restart the recording mode. For me, this is not a one-button operation. Finally, I also assumed that the two mics on the top of the Besue meant stereo recording. I use a Zoom H2n stereo recorder for interviews and stereo is very useful during transcription when there is more than one interviewee. For these reasons I am returning this reliable device.

Pros
  • Good stuff
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
