This gem is by no means a 1k and 6k combo gemstone. The grit isn't even close, maybe 800 and 2k, and the stone doesn't take water well, and no matter how much water you add to the stone after a good half hour of soaking, it just dries out in a couple of hits. The stone is EXTREMELY LOW QUALITY. I'm very experienced at sharpening and honing and I had to work really hard to get a blade that shaves easily as for hair with a 6k finish and belt these knives should be sharp in minutes. The strap on the rough side is pretty decent and the right smooth side really sucks and doesn't connect at all. Something like that, you'll never use a 30 degree bevel. You really need to make sure people know what they're getting because if that person is new to stone sharpening and is trying to clean the blade of a new knife and this guide will take a few hits to the "1000" page use, and they go about changing the bevel to a knife, to the point where they can't get it back to where it was. The scratch pattern created by both abrasives is not what it should be. The 1000 grit side that really looks like 600 to 800 grit creates a scratch pattern that the "6000" grit will never get out of because although it looks more like 2000 grit than 6000 grit on the thin side, it can't case. staying wet enough, even if they are well soaked and adding water every few hits, you can forget to remove scratches from the bottom sand as the corse is rough and flat too big a jump. Ideal would be 600 at 1k, 1k at 3k, 3k at 6k and 6k at 10k if you want a super fine edge, but this stone just doesn't come close to 6k grit, and not even that 3k. /scratch will look like this. You really need to look at the product they are selling as the quality is sorely lacking.
