Many people will like this little box

This little box has a lot going for it.1. It's small at just 3" x 1.5" so it can be tucked away in a corner or in a rack.2 It's available with a 3-pin or 5-pin DMX connector. I've opted for the more common 3-pin connector, which isn't found in the leading competitor's DMX boxes.3. It works. Once you've completed the initial setup (see below), the box is solid. I connect it to my WiFi router and use the Luminair app on my iPad to control my lights remotely.3. Power is supplied via a standard USB cable rather than a proprietary power outlet. You can use any USB power source. Setup is easy: just connect the USB cable to your computer and use the configuration utility to complete the settings except for one complicated step. The block is pre-configured to receive configuration commands at 192.168.0.111. You can change this address, but you MUST use 192.168.0.111 to make the change. I have two routers, but none of them are configured to work with subnet 0 (192.168.0.xxx). I had to disable my Wi-Fi network, reconfigure my router to talk on subnet 0, change the setup address on DMX King to the correct subnet, and then reconfigure my router back to the original settings. But enough of my whining. Once I figured out I had to jump through those hoops, it only took 15 or 20 minutes and then I was able to finish the setup with no problem. Despite this brief disappointment, I can highly recommend the eDMX1 Pro. It reliably does what it is supposed to do: It receives DMX commands from the network and transmits them via the DMX cable.

Cons
  • Big and bulky
