Review on Raybestos 9498R Professional Grade Brake by Charles Galan

Revainrating 3 out of 5

upset. for brake system

I have a hard time understanding what Raybestos means by 'professional level' in relation to these drums. Upon opening both boxes, I noticed some characteristics of both items that made me question whether they deserved the Pro Grade label. The first had counterweights placed in more than half of the allotted space and some minor casting imperfections. The second had very obvious casting irregularities and no balance weights at all. It's hard to believe that no counterweights were needed for this. Also, they weren't the same size. I ended up having to use one of the old drums as one of them just didn't fit either side. A very strange experience for me as I've always been a Raybestos fan. They were made in China and I suspect Raybestos have not kept up with the quality of the parts they make. I'm not saying I'll never buy Raybestos again, but it definitely won't go unnoticed.

Pros
  • Leading manufacturer of brake parts
Cons
  • I have no negative feelings about it, everything is fine
