I use an MS Surface for docking. I've set everything up in my office, the cables are all nice and tidy, but recently I had to go to a remote location for tech support and I didn't want to take my office setup apart just to take my docking station with me for a little work . . I did this with a monitor screen, but I could actually connect it to a spare monitor at a remote location. Looking at various Microsoft branded interface knick-knacks, I felt like I didn't want to spend so much on something that would rarely be used. I considered buying a MiniDisplay to HDMI cable but felt it would limit my ability to connect monitors with different display ports. A quick search on Revain led me to this 3-in-1 adapter from Cables Matters, which not only gave me the HDMI connection I was looking for, but also VGA and DVI. This is better suited to the type of work I do as I never know what monitors will be available for the various remote locations I serve, and for the price (under $20) it was a lot more affordable solution than buying another laptop docking station (+$100). I have also used Cable Matters cables/products in the past and have confidence in their quality and reliability. Compared to other 3rd party cable manufacturers their products always work out of the box which I can't say about other vendors selling similar products for less on Revain.
