Review on Heath Zenith HZ-5412-WH White 180-Degree πŸ”† Motion-Activated Security Light - Enhanced for SEO by Jessie Ritchie

Nice device but read the safety tips in my review.

PIK no longer works on my old 2 light security device (not on this device). Due to the proliferation of LED safety lights, it turned out that there aren't that many PAR38 safety lights anymore. However, I had already invested in some 30w PAR38 LED bulbs (super bright btw) so I decided to buy one. As other reviewers have pointed out, the materials aren't exactly of the highest quality. Considering the price, I find the device quite good. Mine stands about 25 feet up the side of my house with an eaves about 2 feet above it. The seal is fine, so I don't expect any long-term problems. The build quality (despite the materials) appears to be good. Since my use case may be atypical (with a 25ft mounting height), the only thing that bothered me was the PIR performance. I didn't have to worry as the IR sensor has excellent range and just the sensitivity I wanted. I didn't know the location of the photo sensor so wasn't sure if my cornice would interfere. Out of the box I saw that the photo sensor was attached to the bottom of the PIR. I didn't really like this mounting location because I'm pointing the IR sensor down at a pretty big angle. This was another instance where I was concerned that the problem wouldn't occur because the photo sensor was working as intended. I hope I don't have to buy another Guardian of this type, but I RECOMMEND anyone on the market for one. .SPECIAL SAFETY NOTE: Use electrical tape on the crimp wires in the bracket! Since it is a 2 light, the wires for each light are crimped and neutral at the output of the IR sensor. While this is a valid circuit design, there is a problem that someone will inevitably run into. The problem is that a mounting screw (used to attach the lamp to the crossbar) is much longer than necessary. The screw must be pushed out quite a bit to properly seal the retainer with the gasket and doing so can short the hot or neutral wire as the screw can make contact with the crimp. The crimp has a jacket, but not in a way that effectively holds the screw when it's properly aligned. To be honest I think it might be 1/1000 but I believe they are sold in the thousands. A little tape is enough to ensure the unlikely possibility is ruled out.
