Review on MTG Commander EDH Tray With Life Counter – Wooden Tray Compatible For Magic The Gathering by Jim Velasco

Pretty good with minor issues

This counter is fairly easy to assemble. I worked slowly and took around 40 minutes for assembly.I chose to try friction fit assembly to see how sturdy it is and it worked just fine. All the friction fit pieces were fairly tight, often requiring use of small jeweler's pliers or a flat blade screwdriver to help push them flush to surfaces. The horned/tailed counters are a bit fragile on the horns and tails and those bits are easily broken if care is not taken. I had a tail break when removing one from the punch board and a horn broke when turning one after assembly (in all fairness I had it very tight and used the horns as handles). The good part there is my unit included an extra, complete set, of those counters - the top, the middle and bottom circles, and the cross-tab clips so I just replaced one with that spare. The tower spin-down counter fits tightly in its slot and *can* be locked in place with a couple of cross-clips on the bottom of the main plate. As it fits tightly enough I left mine loose so it can be removed for transport and take up a bit less space when stored and to possibly use in standard MTG games as it sits fairly stable when not on the base. The manufacturer must have taken comments to heart about the card area as the product I received holds a sleeved card with plenty of space on all four sides (the image I included has a sleeved card in that space) - even if using sleeves a bit too large for the cards (mine fit the cards almost exactly). The tower spin-down counter works smoothly though I wish the left numbers would ratchet in both directions so if you gain life and go over a "tens" you don't have to spin it completely around to get back up a number. Not a deal breaker, just inconvenient at times. The other counter dials also work smoothly as long as you're careful. I'd have preferred a design with a simple arrow type pointer to help avoid breakage (they *will* break over time) so may disassemble mine and cut those parts off.Overall, it's a nice piece and not that difficult to assemble. It also looks neat on the table.
