Review on Solar Hand Crank Emergency Weather Alert Radio - AM/FM/NOAA, LED Flashlight, Earphone Jack, Bottle Opener - Ideal for Household and Outdoor Use by Karyn Garcia

Revainrating 3 out of 5

It works, but the radio is full of noise.

Advantages: - Has 2 power sources (internal rechargeable battery and 3 AAA batteries). I like the ability to use AAA batteries in case the internal battery dies.- Three ways to increase power (manual crank, solar, and USB). USB is the fastest way to charge the internal battery. - Receives the AM, FM and Weather radio bands, although I found each band to be filled with hiss. My other radios had no reception problems. - The flashlight is bright and has a blue tint. - My iPhone got power from the radio just by plugging it in. The radio does not have to be on. It charges only from the radio's internal battery, not AAA batteries. - The red LED indicator lights up when it is plugged in, spinning or powered by the solar panel. - The green LED indicator lights up when the transmitter is tuned. and a blue light indicates the power is on.- The carabiner is great as the lantern can be hung from a backpack or clothesline. Cons: - Very poor radio reception on all bands - Too easy to accidentally press the alarm button. There is no way to prevent it from being crushed when carried in a pocket or in the hands. The radio was of very poor quality and could only pick up the strongest radio stations. For example, I'm about 25 miles from a 100,000 watt radio tower in Kansas City. I have no problem listening to this station on other radios, but listening to this radio always had hiss. I had similar issues with the AM and Weather bands. Listening to local stations and the weather station in my basement shelter is a requirement of any emergency radio. Unfortunately, moving to my basement has made it difficult to record many stations. - Bottle opener. Serious?!? Why is it even here? Listening and receiving information on the radio is such an important task in an emergency. Unfortunately this radio failed due to a bad receiver. This is an important feature. Therefore, I cannot recommend this emergency radio at this time.
