Bearing Buddies will help you avoid serious mechanical problems. You won't touch her and you won't forget her. They don't save you the trouble of repackaging and/or replacing the bearings. But they help increase bearing maintenance time. With proper use and maintenance, your bearings will last at least 2-3 times longer than without Buddies. Just remember to regularly check your seals for leaks and jack up the trailer to check your wheel for wobble. In any case, your bearings will fail regardless of whether you have friends installed. When used on a boat trailer your wheels and bearings will be submerged in water and without buddies there is a chance the bearings will get hot and suck in water eventually destroying your bearings. Bearing Buddies apply pressure to the grease in the bearings, preventing water from entering. one more lesson Every time you stop en route to your favorite destination, come back and see if your friends are warm or even hot. The warmer the hub, the more likely it is that your bearings will fail. Something you don't want when you're booking 70+ mph on the freeway. And the last. I just installed a new set (the 3rd or 4th set I've installed) on my newest boat trailer and when I stopped at a rest area about 25 miles from home I went back to fix the wheels check over. Everything was fine on the left - not a drop of heat. The first thing I noticed when I went to the other side was grease sticking out of the hub where the bearing buddy should have been. I have no idea when or where it broke off. Or why. Maybe I didn't have it on the line. Or maybe the stroke was just too big. Luckily I was on my way to the boat shop for an engine repair, so the dealer installed a new one. I am ordering another set of Bearing Buddies as insurance against future incidents. I don't blame Bearing Buddy in any way, I take the blame for not installing it properly. If this happens again, I'll post my findings so you know if it's operator error or a problem with Bearing Buddy. I'm sure it was my fault, otherwise I wouldn't have ordered a second set.
